How To Get An Opossum Out Of Your Attic

Getting an Opossum Out of the Attic

Attics can hold all sorts of creatures. From raccoons to bats to opossums, they can each find their way into the attic. If there is a space for them to enter and a place for them to live, they go to it.

Opossums are one of the most common as they love higher locations and live around people’s homes. They need to find a place to live and, typically, that means your attic. They know it is safe for them and that it puts them near food.

For you, it presents health and property hazards. It is a serious pain and you need them gone right away. Knowing how is simple and going through with a plan easier.

Know Its Entry

Every animal that gets into your property has an entry point. You need to figure out that entry point if you are to stop it from coming in again. Look around the attic, trying to find any location where the opossum can enter. These do not have to be huge holes, either, as they can fit through smaller ones, as well.

When you find a location that appears to be the hole, look around it. See if you can find evidence that the opossum is using that as their entry and exit hole. Signs include anything tattered or destroyed, droppings, and other telltale signs of an animal in the area.

Removing It

When you know where it is, where it leaves for the night, you can place a trap. Opossums are one of the easiest animals to trap, so you should have no troubles with this. Get an appropriately sized trap, bait it with a food the opossum is going to like, and let it sit there. Within a day or two, assuming you placed the trap properly, you should catch the opossum.

Once caught, you can remove it from the property any relocate it. You can also have a service pick it up if you would like, but that is unnecessary. The trapping and relocation are manageable for most people with ease. Make sure you seal up the entry hole so that no other opossum or animal can reenter it.

No one wants opossums living in their attic. The dangers to you and your property are far too great. Get the opossum out quickly with the use of traps and relocate it right away.
